Highly standardized patient assessments have been a key cornerstone of mental health care and research for decades — in fact, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were likely already in widespread use in this field before they were even referred to as such (Steinbeck, Ernst, Burger, Pruss: Use of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in German-Speaking Countries, 2022).
